October 26: Following the Bundesliga’s Bayern Munich and VfL Wolfsburg, LaLiga’s outfit Real Madrid has announced its planning to open an office for the Chinese market in Beijing.
At their promotional event titled Real Madrid China Summit, the club’s general director José Ángel Sánchez released this announcement and disclosed the club’s business strategy for China. Emilio Butragueño, Real Madrid's Director of Institutional Relations, and the club’s legend Ronaldo Nazario also attended the event.
A Nielsen’s report shows that the club has a fan base with 97 million members in China, topping all of the European football clubs in the Chinese market. A typical profile of Real Madrid’s fans: “a 38-year-old man who is highly-educated and has strong purchasing power.”
This fact allows the club to see China as a market with great potential. Sánchez noted that the club’s business strategy for the Chinese market can be divided into three parts as follows:
1. To reach and connect with the Chinese market by selling merchandise and conducting entertainment events.
2. Form partnerships with top brands in areas of interest to the club.
3. To promote and distribute the club’s digital content online.
Ronaldo Nazario also shared a memory from China – he expressed that it was an honor to come to China for football matches as a Real Madrid player and to be warmly welcomed by Chinese fans.
