August 25: Rastar Group, Chinese owner of La Liga outfit RCD Espanyol, has released its half-year financial report for 2017.
Over the past six months, the company’s turnover reached 1.305 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 44.52%. Notably, the results from the company’s performance over the past half-year have shown significant growth in its sports business.
The sports business has brought in 289 million yuan, with 183 million yuan in broadcasting rights, 25.8847 million yuan in sponsorships and advertising, 36.3822 million yuan in tickets sales, 32.9374 million yuan in transfer windows and 10.9771 million yuan in soccer merchandizing.
Rastar Group reports 165 million yuan in Net Profit Attributable To Shareholders Of Parent Company The Interim 2017, decreased by 38.82%.
Espanyol shows 42.1695 million yuan in net profits and contributes 36.7248 million yuan to the company net profit, accounting for 22.3%. Starting from the 2016/17 season, the Spanish La Liga has adopted a new TV rights model that ends Barcelona and Real Madrid monopoly.
Under this model, 50 percent of the share will be distributed equally between all 20 Liga teams, with the other 50% determined by other criteria, such as league position in the previous five seasons, capacity to generate funds through club memberships and ticket sales. Espanyol’s better performance on the pitch will bring in more revenue in broadcasting rights.
