According to an official statement on June 11 from Chinese Super League (CSL) side Jiangsu Suning, Fabio Capello has been named as the new head coach of Suning.

Tencent Sports reported that Suning after some successful negotiations reached an agreement and signed a one-and-a-half-year contract with Capello, with the Italian's coaching team netting an annual salary of €10m ($11.2m).

Capello’s backroom staff of 4 assistant coaches will join Suning alongside the former England National team coach, including Gianluca Zambrotta, former Italian national team member and former AC Milan star and head coach and Cristian Brocchi, former Italian national team member.

Over the first 12 weeks of the 2017/18 CSL, Suning currently rank 15th of 16 clubs with a dismal record of just 1 win, 5 draws and 6 defeats plus a last-16 elimination from this years Asian Champions League. After taking the reins of Suning, Capello’s first priority is to ensure Suning’s league safety from relegation. It seems unlikely that Suning will qualify for next seasons ACL, but they are hoping to win the 2017 Chinese Football Association Cup and with the capture of Capello for the next 18 months, Suning hope to win next season's CSL title under the Italian's leadership.
