The English Premier League (EPL) has been attracting renewed interest from Chinese groups including Fosun and Dalian Wanda, according to a recent report by Reuters.
Fosun, which has close ties to ‘super agent' Jorge Mendes, bought Wolverhampton Wanderers last month. Wanda, led by China's richest man Wang Jianlin, owns a 20% stake in Atletico Madrid and is a major sponsor of FIFA, soccer’s world governing body.
As stated in an earlier story, a consortium led by state-owned financial conglomerate Everbright has made a bid of £800 million to Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the American owners of Liverpool.
Although none of the newly emerged groups have put together a formal bid, they have shown their ambition to acquire one of England most powerful soccer clubs.
Tom Werner, Chairman of the EPL outfit, said last week that the club's American owners were not planning to sell it, but another source was saying that they could be open to offers for a minority stake.
