The Chinese media have recently reported that the President of Wanda Group, Wang Jianlin could meet with Rupert Murdoch, the Australian-American media business magnate.
Wang Jianlin is currently accompanying Chinese vice premier Liu Yandong on a visit to the EU headquarters and the UK. The media alleged that the real estate mogul has revealed the likeli-ness of this meeting.
The Chinese media have speculated that it is highly likely that Wanda will consider buying Sky Sports which is one of the many companies that Murdoch’s News Corporation owns, given that Sky Sports has the TV broadcasting rights of the Premier League in the UK which means as a sports-related business it makes sense “that by investing in it would make Wanda’s sports busi-ness more roundly covered, having already businesses in areas such as rights holders, sports eventsand top media”.
However at the moment this is just rumor and speculation, but earlier this year after Wang pur-chased Infront, Wang did say that they would make a few more investments or buy outs in the sports industry. More recently they purchased a 20% stake in La Liga’s Athletico Madrid. So, therefore, there might be more moves made during the end of this year.
