2018-2019 winter destination tourism in China grows significantly

The China Tourism Academy and the travel agency ctrip.com jointly published a report on the winter destination tourism in China in 2018-2019. (Note: the data used in the report is consumption and booking data collected via ctrip portals and stores until Jan 2019. The 2018-2019 winter season refers to the period from Nov 2018 to April 2019.) The report shows that tourists travelling to popular winter tourism destinations in China have grown 145% compared to last year. 

For the 2017-2018 winter tourism season, the number of winter tourists in China was 197 million and the revenue was roughly CNY330bn, which was 16% and 22% higher than the previous season respectively. By 2021-2022 winter season, the estimated number of tourists could reach 340 million and the revenue CNY680bn. 

The most popular winter tourism destinations are in the Northeastern area, such as Heilongjiang Province, Jilin Province, and Liaoning Province. The top 10 destinations are Harbin, Xuexiang, Changbaishan, Changchun, Shangzhi, Urumqi, Jilin, Mudanjiang, Zhangjiakou, and Lanzhou. 

People in the southern provinces are more interested in winter tourism destinations. People in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Beijing, Shenzhen, Nanjing, Hangzhou and Wuhan are among the top 10 interested cities.
