The southwestern city of Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan Province in China, is going to construct a new sports center containing a 60,000 capacity football stadium and other sports arenas by 2022.
The new sports center, Chengdu Fenghuang Mountain Sports Center, will be located in the northern part of Jinniu District, a district located at the center of Chengdu. The sports center will include a professional football stadium with a capacity of 60,000 people and a professional 18,000-seater NBA-standard multifunctional stadium.
The world class stadiums will allow the sports center to host top class international and domestic sports events. The sports center also aims to provide services for youth training, sports exchange events, commercial shows and other major activities.
CCRG Group, which is a subsidiary of the state-owned Chengdu City Construction Investment & Management Group Co, Ltd., will be responsible for the construction of the sports center. The construction is scheduled to commence in December 2018, with the project expected to be finished and ready for use in 2020. The company confirmed the sports center project at its corporation and product launch event held on November 22.
The city of Chengdu has a China League One team, Chengdu Better City Football Club who were promoted from China League Two in the 2018 season.
