Shandong Province releases 2017 sports industry statistics

The Shandong Administration of Sports and Shandong Provincial Bureau of Statistics jointly released statistics and a research report about the Shandong provincial sports industry development in 2017. This is the third year in a row that Shandong Province has conducted research into the development and related economic figures of its sports industry. 

According to the 2017 edition of the sports industry statistics, the 2017 gross output of the Shandong sports industry was CNY234.801bn with its added value being CNY77.041bn. Sports industry output accounts for 1.06% of the GDP of Shandong Province. The 2017 Shandong sports industry also demonstrates apparent increases compared to the previous year with its GDP growing by 2.4% more than 2016 and its added value expanding by 9.4%. 

The manufacturing of sports goods and relevant goods sector has the largest output (CNY113.967bn) and added value (CNY21.731bn) among all 11 sports sectors, which accounts for 48.5% and 28.2% respectively of the entire Shandong sports industry’s GDP and added value. Among other sports sectors beyond the manufacturing of sports goods and sports venues and facilities construction sectors, the sports brokerage services has contributed the largest output (CNY45.763bn) and added value (CNY15.622bn) with a year-on-year growth of 24.5% and 24.6% respectively. The second sector with the largest output (CNY24.3bn, 17.7% increase) and added value (CNY10.196bn, 16.9% increase) is the other relevant sports services sector which was followed by the third sector, trading and lending of sports goods and relevant goods (GDP: CNY14.007bn, added value: CNY8.866bn). 

Sports venue services, sports media information services, sports events and sports shows all demonstrated significant growth too. 

Among the 17 cities in Shandong, Qingdao had the largest sports output (CNY45.589bn). The first four cities, Qingdao, Dezhou, Jinan and Weihai, contributed 50% to the gross provincial sports output.
