By Andrea Huang Friday, 17 Aug 2018 17:19

Wang Sicong (Sephirex Wang), the son of Wanda Group boss Wang Jianlin, is attempting to register as an official player for Invictus Gaming, a professional eSports club he owns, to play in the LPL team for the club. If his registration is successful, he would possibly play in an official LPL game on August 19.

The news was disclosed by the club on the night of August 16. The Vice President of iG eSports club, Zang Ma, announced this news via Weibo and Wang Sicong shared the post. According to Zang Ma, the idea came about when he was meeting with Wang to talk about the club’s work. He mentioned in the discussion that they needed another LPL player to play more LPL games as he had not competed for a long time. Wang Sicong joked that maybe he should be allowed himself to play in some games? Zang Ma considered the joke and found that it was not impossible and it might be the best time to fulfill the wishes of Wang without affecting the club’s performance, given that Wang meets all the rules to be a professional eSports player.

After discussing with Wang, they decided to follow the standard player registration process to register him as a player for the club. They have submitted all the required documents, such as player profile photos, player contract and so on and are waiting for the result.

Zang Ma is aware that it sounds unusual and may receive some criticisms and misunderstandings. Therefore, he wrote a long post on Weibo explaining the decision.

He also admitted it was likely that Wang Sicong would not beat professional eSports players but that they were ready to accept any result.

Wang Sicong founded the eSports club in 2011 after acquiring CCM. iG has several teams, including League of Legends, DOTA2, CS:GO, Overwatch and others. Their LPL teams won the 2016 National Electronic Sports Tournament organized by the General Administration of Sport of China.

As the only son of one of the richest men in China, Founder and Chairman of Prometheus Capital, a Director of Wanda Group and President of www.panda.tv, Wang Sicong has always attracted much attention in China with his active presence on Weibo and his demonstration of the spirit of “free speech”. His participation in professional eSports games, whether or not it is eventually realized, will help grab wide attention for his club, LPL and eSports.
