PARIS, 4 AUGUST - Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to announce the arrival of Wang Shuang. Aged 23, the Chinese midfielder has signed a two-year contract that will see her join the club from now until 30th June 2020.
Wang Shuang is considered to be one of the strongest talents in Chinese women’s football. After having started her career in her native country with Wuhan Ladies in 2012, the Chinese international (80 caps, 19 goals) gained experience in the South Korean league with Daejon Sportstoto, before rejoining her formative club two years later.
In 2015, she was part of the Chinese team that competed at the World Cup in Canada. On December 16th of the same year, in New Orleans, Wang Shuang was the only goalscorer in a historic victory against the United States that ended the Americans’ 104-match unbeaten run, which started in 2004.
In 2016, the promising midfielder signed for Dalian Quanjian, a club at which she would go on to win two Chinese League titles, in 2016 and 2017. In January 2018, she returned to Wuhan Ladies after having been elected the best Chinese player of 2017.
"By signing for Paris Saint-Germain, I am taking a new turn in my career," commented Wang Shuang whilst signing her contract. "I am very happy to start my first experience in European football, where the best teams in the world are. I am delighted, most notably, at the idea of playing in the Champions League, a competition in which PSG will make its big return this year. I hope that I can help my new club to achieve all of the ambitious objectives it has set itself for the upcoming season. »
Bruno Cheyrou, Sporting Director of the women’s team, added : « We are very happy to welcome Wang Shuang into the Paris Saint-Germain family. She is a very talented young player, one of the best in her position. She becomes the first female Chinese player to wear a Parisian shirt. She joins our team with a lot of ambition. »
