The first professional women’s basketball club in Hebei Province, the Hebei Win Power Basketball Club, were officially established on July 18 in Hengshui city, Hebei Province. The launch ceremony was held at the club in Hengshui.
It is the first professional women’s club in Hebei Province and has been acknowledged by relevant authorities including the Chinese Basketball Association, Hebei Sports Bureau, the Hengshui municipal government and Hengshui municipal sports bureau representatives who attended the ceremony.
The club has satisfied the admission requirements of the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association and is preparing its requirements for the CBA and General Administration of Sport of China. It will make its WCBA league debut in the 2018/2019 season and will represent Hebei province in other national and international competitions.
Win Power is fully privately-funded and was registered at the local Administration for Industry and Commerce department in April 2017 with a registered capital of CNY20m. There are currently two stake holders, QIN Baoli and LI Yong. The club is located in Taocheng District, Hengshui, and they have built a brand new 10,000 square-meter training base,costing around CNY36m. The new basketball training base took 6 months to build.
The original Hebei women’s basketball team will be replaced by the professional outfit Win Power. In addition to building itself on the foundations of the original Hebei team, the club is also reported to have recruited some stars to enhance its on-court performances.
There were 14 teams in the 2017/18 WCBA season. The WCBA shares a similar season schedule with the CBA-- they both start in November with the playoff final scheduled in April the following year.
