By Chen Yaping Monday, 28 May 2018 21:01

Together with the creative digital community Cyberport, HKU SPACE (School of Professional and Continuing Education, the University of Hong Kong) plans to launch its first eSports program.

The new eSports Science program, which will run 6 to 9 months, is expected to recruit 100 students from June 2018, with each student paying HKD20,000 to study related courses starting as soon as July.

The program will be built around the eSports industry chain and will consist of six major parts: the eSports business ecosystem, development background, streaming technology, program management, social responsibility and safety & rules.

eSports experts will act as tutors of the program, offering courses, seminars, workshops, tutorials, experimental courses and internship opportunities for students.

In recent years, Hong Kong has continued expanding efforts in the eSports industry, aiming to help boost economic development. After the success of the first Hong Kong eSports Festival in August 2017, the Hong Kong Tourism Board will host the second annual eSports Festival event this August.

It is reported that this year’s eSports and music events will be held in two venues respectively, as 3 international eSports competitions and experience areas will be moved to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center while the Hong Kong Coliseum will host two large-scale concerts.

The ticket price of the eSports events will be reduced by 30% to 40%, expecting to attract 100,000 people in 3 days.
