The 2018 Shanghai Longines Global Champions Tour took place from April 20 to 22, at which BMW acted as the Major Sponsor of the event.
It is the second year that BMW have sponsored this premium equestrian event as the latter’s exclusive vehicle partner. This year, BMW introduced several of their latest models of cars at the Champions Tour and made them the official cars of the event.
Meanwhile, this sponsorship deal also enabled BMW to be the title sponsor of the team competition at the 2018 Shanghai Longines Global Champions Tour, the CSI 5* BMW GCL of Shanghai. Liu Zhi, President of BMW China, attended the competition and presented the prizes to the champions of the CSI 5* BMW GCL of Shanghai.
The Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT), founded in 2006 by the Olympic gold medalist Jan Tops, is an annual show jumping series that comprises up to 15 rounds of competition hosted around the world. It brings together the top 30 riders in the FEI Jumping World Rankings.
Since 2007, all LGCT events have been held as CSI 5*, which means that under FEI rules they are championship-level events. In 2014, the LGCT featured Shanghai as a new station of the series, meaning it is the 5th year for the city to host this premium equestrian event.
