Beijing has 3,500 registered young winter sports athletes in 2017

On March 30, Beijing held a working conference to release its youth sports summary in 2017 and plan for the year 2018.

According to Zhang Xia, Deputy Director of Beijing Sports Bureau, the city established 83 district-level youth teams for winter sports, 4 youth reserve teams for ice hockey and more than 3,500 registered youth winter sports players. Beijing youth players won 4 gold medals in track and field and 2 silver medals at the 2017 National Games.

In 2017, Beijing also established 15 training camps for outstanding talent in sports such as table tennis and wrestling. Meanwhile, the city formed as many as 15 amateur sports teaching and research groups. The number of national reserve talent bases grew from 10 to 14, with 5 sports schools being included in the list of TOP 100 national key bases for sports reserve talents.

Beijing also held the Primary and Middle School Basketball Championship and Volleyball Championship Finals. Four winter sports events, Beijing Youth Skiing Event, the Primary and Middle School Ice Hockey League, the Figure Skating Event and the Ice Hockey Club League, grew rapidly in 2017.

The capital of China will hold the 15th Beijing City Games and its first Winter Games in 2018. The city aims to reach up to 110 district-level teams reach and establish a Beijing Youth Sports Association as well as hold more events for young participants.
