The Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) recently held its 9th work conference in Dongguan City in Guangdong Province.

Attendees have agreed to set up the CBA Council in accordance with the tenure of the 9th CBA office, with the goal of ensuring the smooth proceeding of further work.

As CBA Chairman Yao Ming said, the organization will start from basic development, platform building and service orientation to create a sustainable landscape for Chinese basketball.

He pointed out that 2017 was the first year for substantive reform of Chinese basketball. The CBA, aiming to set up a new management model for the organization, established 9 special committees in strategic planning, teenage sports, coaches, referees, discipline and morality, arbitration, medical research and anti-doping, journalism, and 3v3 basketball.

In the same year, two programmatic and guiding documents, China Basketball Strategic Planning and CBA Brand Planning, were also launched.

Meanwhile, Yao also made clear some problems and challenges for the Chinese basketball governing body, such as unbalanced development between men’s and women’s teams, adult and teenage players, national teams and professional leagues.

The CBA chairman indicated that in 2018, the CBA is expected to focus on political, ideological, organizational, disciplinary, institutional and anti-corruption building. Projects like women’s basketball, national teams, community basketball and 3v3 basketball will be given priority this year.
