China Central Television Network (CCTV) has recently released an official statement claiming the exclusive broadcast rights to the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics in Mainland China and Macau.
“Under the deal we have signed with the International Olympic Committee, CCTV owns the exclusive all media rights to the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics in Mainland China and Macau,” As the network says in the statement.
“Any unauthorized use or broadcast without permission, whether in forms of video or radio related to the 2018 Games, is strictly prohibited in Mainland China and Macau (including but not limited to TV stations, radio stations, video websites, mobile operators, IPTV, APPs and OTT services).”
In addition to this, the state TV station will also reserve the right to take any legal action necessary against those unauthorized use.
This year, CCTV has sent a 270-person team to Pyeongchang to ensure the quality of the broadcast, TV program production and internet media production of the 2018 Games. The team has set up a 1000-square-meter working area consisting of the main studio center for CCTV 5 and CCTV 5+, and the internet studio for all media platforms.
The team is also expected to introduce a sports event tactical analysis system to provide more visualized real-time footage for China-based viewers.
At 7:00 pm on February 9 (Beijing Time), the Chinese network will show the opening ceremony of this years’ Winter Olympic Games.
The opening ceremony, titled Peace in Motion, will be held at the Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium located in the Gangwon province. It is said that augmented reality and 5G service will also be introduced in the 2000-actor show.
