At a press conference held by the General Administration of Sport of China, it was announced that the 2018 IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships will take place in Taicang, Jiangsu Province in May, 2018 making it the 8th year that Taicang has hosted this world-class walking race event since 2011.
The 2-day championships beginning on May 5 has 6 races scheduled – the Men’s 20km, Men’s 50 km, Women’s 20 km, Women’s 50km, Junior men’s 10km and the Junior women’s 10km with each race crowning an individual athlete and a team award.
The IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships is a race walking event organized by the International Association of Athletics Federations. It has been held since 1961, and generally on a biennial basis. The women’s event first started with the 1979 edition.
It was formerly known as the Lugano Cup after the city that hosted the first event. In 2004, a Junior division was added, with men and women aged 19 or younger.
