December 8: Shandong Province has officially announced the launch of the Qilu eSports Science & Tech Town project, as the Global Finals of the World University Cyber Games (WUCG) 2017 kicked off at Zhangqiu District of Ji’nan City.
The projected eSports town, expected to be located between Shandong Unversity (Zhangqiu) and Shandong University of Finance and Economics (Zhangqiu), will be co-founded by Shandong Radio & TV eSports Culture Media Company Ltd and Qilu Real Estate Development Group.
The two parties are looking to create an eSports ecosystem combining industries, start-ups and lifestyles. The 5-billion-yuan project, expected to cover an area of 400,000m2, will consist of a VR Visual technology zone, an eSports industry zone, two eSports education colleges, a science and innovation incubation zone and a supporting services zone.
The local government will also introduce more than 200 companies and institutes as well as over 5,000 talents for the development of science and innovation in the project. In the future, Shandong also plans to set up a 6-billion-yuan fund for this eSports industry project, with the goal of generating a total revenue of 12 billion yuan in science and innovation businesses.
