November 5: The FIBA-endorsed Sina 3X3 Basketball Golden League (SGL) has ended its third tournament in Beijing, with the Team NO WHOWHO from Shanxi Province claiming the national championship and taking home the 480,000-yuan prize.
In the final game, NO WHOWHO played against Weilang Sports, a team from Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, and bested the team 20-14 for the championship.
One thing extraordinary is that NO WHOWHO’s Nauris Miezis is an elite player of 3X3 basketball ranking 18th in the world (according to FIBA rankings), while the latter team consists of four players who have made to the final eight in the 13th National Games of the People's Republic of China.
Prior to the finals, a slam dunk contest was held on the same court; Justin “Jus Fly” Darington from the world-famous dunk group Dunk Elite pocketed the championship. Former Chinese basketball star Mengke Bateer also appeared in the contest as one of the judges. At the following one-on-one contest, Song Liuxuan from Changsha, Hunan Province, became the final winner.
Inaugurated in 2015, the SGL is one of Sina’s original IP events. This year, the SGL began on March 18 in Xiamen, Fujian Province and finished on November 5 in Beijing and is comprised of 6,000 teams with 24,576 players in total. McDonald's and the Chinese sports brand Peak Sports serve as the top strategic partners for this year’s tournament.
