To better meet people’s demands and needs for exercise, Shanghai is going to build Xujiahui Sports Park, based on the upgraded Shanghai Gymnasium and Shanghai Stadium.
Xujiahui Sports Park will act as a new landmark for sports in Shanghai. According to the construction plan, the Xujiahui Sports Park will cover an area of 35.96 hectares, available for both sports mega-events and daily exercise of local residents.
The park will be divided into two parts, the north area will be available for aerobic exercises like jogging and walking, while the southern part will be an area for various sports, featuring indoor swimming pools, football pitches and basketball courts. Moreover, two tracks will be built in the two parts respectively.
Media reports have said that construction of the park has been started and would be completed October 2019. During the construction period, Shanghai Gymnasium and the Shanghai Stadium will operate as usual.
