The Women’s Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA) have announced an expansion plan for the 2017/18 season, according to a Tencent report.
The new season, which is expected to kick off on November 5, will see the women’s basketball league expanded from 12 to 14 teams. Similar to the NBA format the league will feature the Regular+ Playoffs model.
Under the new rules, 14 teams will be selected through qualification games. The regular season, expected to run from November 5 to January 13, will see the 14 highest ranked teams play on a home and away double round-robin format.
The Top 8 teams from the regular season will qualify for the playoffs and play in a best-of-five series. The playoffs will run from January 30 until March 20.
The WCBA, founded in 2002, is the first-tier professional women's basketball league in China and is the women’s counterpart to the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA).
