Shanghai SIPG & Shenhua to play most expensive Derby

Shanghai Greenland Shenhua officially announced signing the Argentinian “Beast” Tévez on December 29, 2016. The annual salary of Tévez, whose transfer fee is thought to be around €8.5m, will be around €15m - €20m, according to various reports from foreign media.

Before this, Shanghai SIPG announced they had completed a deal with former Chelsea player Oscar for a sky-high price. At a Media Conference on 28th December Sui Guoyang of SIPG revealed that Oscar’s package was to be €60m, and added that “Our goal is to take the crown next season.”

Whether they take the crown or not, we will have to wait and see. One undoubted fact is that this payment takes the crown. The previous transfer record in the China Football Association Super League (CSL) was Hulk at €22m to Shanghai SIPG. Now Oscar has replaced Hulk as the most valuable player in the CSL, and Shanghai SIPG have replaced Guangzhou Evergrande the most valuable team in Asia. The total value for Shenhua is €38,150,000 after they signed Tévez, ranking them third in the CSL.

The 2017 Derby, Shenhua v SIPG, will be the most expensive one in the history of Shanghai Derbies, with the combined value of the two teams at €110m, according to Sohu, Titan 24 etc.
