Chinese conglomerate Everbright’s offer for English Premier League(EPL) club Liverpool FC has been confirmed by sources close to the firm, according to a recent report by Insideworldfootball.
Though no official statement has been made by Liverpool, it is reported that Everbright’s offer has been received by the club’s owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG).
Liverpool chairman Tom Werner once said: “We’ve said it before and I’d like to say it again: this club is not for sale.” But there are reports saying that the club is seeking to sell a minority stake, while the Chinese group aims to acquire full control of the club.
In another story by Xinhua, Kieran Maguire, an expert in soccer finance said that the deal is very promising.
As he said in an interview, "Liverpool is one of the most recognised football brands in the world, and even though it has not won very much in recent years its fame continues. Liverpool FC could well see the advantage of a minority stake from China as it would open the door to one of the world' s biggest growing markets for the club.”
