The Chinese Volleyball Association, the governing body of volleyball in China, last Thursday announced a strategic partnership with Beijing-based sports company iRENA.
The agreement will see iRENA become the official commercial partner of the Chinese Volleyball League (CVL), the pre-eminent men's and women's professional volleyball leagues in China. The partnership will run from the 2016/2017 season until the end of the 2018/2019 season. The two parties will work together on event operation, sponsorship, media rights, licensing, player brokerage, venues and ticketing of China’s top flight volleyball.
The two sides will also collaborate on grassroots volleyball and e-sports. Despite the financial terms not being disclosed, it is understood it will cost iRENA over RMB100 million annually.
The CVL, founded in 1996, is the generic name of Chinese top division volleyball which includes the men's and women's professional volleyball leagues in China. Both the men’s and women’s leagues have 12 participating teams.
