According to a professional working in the Russian sports industry, two Chinese ice hockey clubs are probably going to join the Kontinental Hockey League.
The contact said that the agreement was already reached by Chinese government and KHL, according to his knowledge.
There are no official news releases or relevant reports yet. However, according to a Chinese news reports released at the beginning of this October, the deputy chairman of the Sport Department of the Russian Federation did come to China with KHL delegate group and conducted talks with the General Administration of Sport of China on the collaboration of winter sports projects, and wanted to import some Chinese athletes to KHL.
The contact also said that the president of the International Ice Hockey Federation, Rene Fasel, mentioned that the league needed to increase the number of clubs.
KHL has clubs from six other countries apart from Russia, including Kazakhstan, Belarus, Latvia, and Slovakia.
